Porto the Douro Valley and Salamanca Cruise
Embark on a mesmerising journey along the Douro River, from the charismatic city of Porto, through the heart of Portugal's famed wine country, and into the soulful landscapes of Spain, before circling back to Porto. This cruise offers an unparalleled opportunity to experience the rich cultural heritage and stunning vistas of the Iberian Peninsula.
Porto: The journey begins in Porto, a city steeped in history and renowned for its port wine. Explorers can wander through the Ribeira District, visit the Stock Exchange Palace, or take a port wine tasting tour in the Vila Nova de Gaia cellars.
Régua: Cruising eastward, you'll arrive in Régua, the epicentre of the Douro wine region. Here, visit the Douro Museum to learn about the local wine-making process, or perhaps venture to Lamego to see the Baroque sanctuary of Nossa Senhora dos Remédios.
Vega de Terrón: As the ship sails into Spain, Vega de Terrón, a quaint village near Salamanca, offers a charming stop. Enjoy the rustic beauty of the region or take a day trip to Salamanca, known for its ornate sandstone architecture and the University of Salamanca, one of Europe's oldest universities.
Barca d'Alva: This small, tranquil town is your gateway to the Coa Valley Museum and Archaeological Park, famous for its prehistoric rock art.
Ferradosa and Pinhão: These towns are quintessentially Douro, with terraced vineyards lining the hills. Indulge in a traditional Portuguese lunch at a local quinta and sample the region's spectacular wines.
Return to Porto: As the cruise loops back to Porto, relax and reflect on the journey, with the river's serene beauty accompanying you.
